COUNCIL UPDATE | 30 SEPTEMBER 2025
 
Today, the O.R. Tambo District Council, presided over by Speaker Cllr N. Ngqongwa, convened virtually to review progress and take key decisions to keep our District moving forward.
The Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Sabisa, tabled a comprehensive report outlining urgent recovery efforts and long-term development priorities:
✅ R30 million flood recovery boost:
Council approved a Special Adjustment Budget after securing R30 million from the Municipal Disaster Response Grant (MDRG) to repair infrastructure damaged by the June 2025 floods, helping restore water and essential services to affected communities.
✅ Service Delivery & Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) updated:
The 2025/26 SDBIP was revised to ensure this new funding reaches the areas that need it most.
✅ Projects realigned for faster delivery:
An updated Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) Project Implementation Plan was approved to unlock and accelerate key infrastructure projects.
✅ Financial accountability strengthened:
The 2024/25 Consolidated Annual Financial Statements were noted and submitted to the Auditor-General on time. Council also moved to write off outdated assets, showing stronger financial discipline.
✅ Audit Action Plan on track:
Most audit findings have been addressed, only three ICT policy issues remain, scheduled for approval by December 2025.
✅ Council resolutions 95% implemented:
Since Dec 2024, Council has tabled 139 items, 95% of resolutions are already implemented, proving that decisions are turning into action.
✅ Future-focused planning:
Council approved the review process for the District Development Model “One Plan”, ensuring updated data, catalytic projects, and alignment with the latest national priorities.
