We Are the Children of O.R. Tambo

Every beautiful October morning in our district not only reveals the splendour of our landscapes, it also reminds us of the beauty of a soul who walked among us: our father, Oliver Reginald Tambo.
These mornings remind us how deeply blessed we are to carry his name, and how sacred that inheritance is. As we move toward the close of this iconic month, the month of OR’s birth, we are once again called to reflect on the values he stood for, and the unwavering commitment he showed to the aspirations of his people: us.
October should not be a month of memory alone. It must also be a month of revival, a time to renew our pledge of service to our people with zeal, humility, and dedication.

The challenges that still confront our communities, poverty, unemployment, inequality, and inadequate services, must never numb our conscience. They must instead propel us to act with urgency and conviction. Those entrusted with public duty must spare no effort and no resource in the pursuit of a better life for all our people.
O.R. Tambo embodied honesty, resilience, ethical leadership, and above all, an immense love for humanity. These are not just words to be admired, they are principles to be lived. They must remain our compass as we navigate the responsibilities of service and leadership.
We must strive to build communities that are safe, united, and full of opportunity, places where every person has the freedom to dream, to grow, and to contribute.

We must fight crime and corruption.
We must deliver services efficiently and with integrity.
We must preach the message of love, peace, and comradeship.
And above all, we must unite our people behind a shared vision and chart the path toward that common dream.
Because we are, and will always be,
the children of O.R. Tambo.
