Government Committing to Faster & Accountable Delivery

In O.R.Tambo, leaders across all spheres of government came together with one clear mandate: to act with urgency, align efforts, and deliver, together.
Leaders from national, provincial, and local government convened with a clear and urgent mandate: housing and disaster response can not wait.
Led by Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Tandi Mahambehlala, alongside Deputy Executive Mayor Thandekile Sabisa, MMC Njisane, and supported by Tamlyn Bouwer and senior officials from all theses spheres…..this was not a ceremonial gathering….not a “Meet & Greet”
It was a focused working session anchored in accountability, coordination, and decisive action.
At the heart of these engagements was a shared commitment to confront human settlements challenges in the district, strengthen contractor performance, and enhance the effectiveness of disaster response in collaboration.
The meeting sought to reinforce accountability and define both immediate and long-term interventions to improve disaster response in our district.
The reality was confronted directly, that families are still waiting for Temporary Residential Units, including those affected by both recent and past disasters.
Urgent needs persistent across communities were raised.
Housing budget that remains constrained and insufficient to meet the rising, housing demand, in our district.
Some projects have stalled, and delivery is taking longer than acceptable….
In this engagement, there was no deflection or shifting of responsibility , iinkokheli bezinganyolani, zikhombana ngomnwe esweni, but addressing issues together.
What stood out was a unified commitment to act, together and with urgency.
Human Settlements remains central to the District’s priorities.
Housing delivery is a top priority or concern, an agenda item being advanced through various platforms of discussion in the institution.
In the recent District Housing Forum, led by MMC Njisane, this matter was a top priority, alongside the Technical IGR engagements and the District Mayor’s Forum…lo mba usoloko usesithebeni sengxoxo, kukhangelwa isisombululo.
This sustained coordination is strengthening planning, deepening alignment, and ensuring all spheres of government remain focused on delivery…
This, happening in our district…… is what a true District Development Model pilot should look like: one table, one plan, one coordinated response that put people first…🤞🏼🤞🏼
Delivery has to accelerate. Planning has to be sharper. Accountability has to be visible, because behind every delay is a family waiting for shelter, safety, and dignity.
To the people of O.R. Tambo, the message is clear: Your concerns are heard, they are known and seen, your government is acting, together, to respond.
Progress is being driven with urgency, alignment, and purpose.
When government works as one, confidence will be restored, dignity of our people will be upheld, and hope will find its way home
