Speaker’s Civic Education Programme Reaches Ward 27 Community

The O.R. Tambo District Municipality today hosted a Civic Education Programme led by the Office of the Speaker in KwaCawu, Kwaaiman Village, Ward 27 in the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality.
The programme forms part of the Speaker’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public participation and ensure that communities are informed about their rights, responsibilities, and available government services.

Stakeholders who participated in the engagement included representatives from:
• Agriculture
• South African Police Service (SAPS)
• Moral Regeneration Movement
• South African Social Security Agency (SASSA)
• Department of Home Affairs
The session was facilitated by Cllr Sandla Tokwana, who attended the programme as delegated by the Speaker of Council, Cllr Ngqongwa.
Speaking during the engagement, Cllr Tokwana emphasised the importance of community participation in governance.
“Public participation helps ensure that services are delivered effectively and that development reaches every household,” he said.
The engagement created a valuable platform for government departments to interact directly with residents, share information on available services, and encourage active community participation in development and service delivery.
