The O.R. Tambo District Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr. Thandekile Sabisa, together with MMC for Infrastructure, Water and Sanitation, Cllr. Mlamli Ndabeni, is leading a Strategic Meeting on Water Service Delivery at the Mvumelwano Water Scheme in Ward 14, Qumbu.
The meeting brings together Municipal Leadership, Traditional Leaders, Ward Councillors and key stakeholders to address challenges affecting water service delivery in the area.
The Mvumelwano Water Scheme has been non-operational for an extended period due to theft and vandalism. The Municipality has now put measures in place to repair and restore the scheme, with more than 50 villages expected to benefit once the water supply is restored.
Deputy Executive Mayor Cllr. Sabisa reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment, saying: “Access to clean and reliable water is a basic right, and we will work together to ensure that no community is left behind.”
Cllr. Ndabeni also called on communities to protect public infrastructure and stop vandalism, emphasising that sustainable service delivery requires everyone’s cooperation.
