Today, O.R. Tambo District Municipality hosted a Disaster Advisory Forum meeting at the Savoy Conference Centre.

In her welcoming remarks, the MMC for Community Services, Cllr Nontyatyambo Gcingca, highlighted that the district remains prone to various disasters. She emphasized the importance of collaboration and collective thinking in identifying effective strategies to address environmental challenges and disaster-related risks.

The meeting brought together representatives from local municipalities within the district, government departments, and key stakeholders to discuss incident reports, short-term and long-term interventions, project programmes, and outstanding service delivery backlogs.
Discussions focused on the changing trends of disasters and the need to strengthen preparedness measures. Participants were encouraged to adhere to standard operating procedures when reporting incidents and to prioritize disaster risk reduction initiatives rather than relying solely on response measures.

The South African Weather Service provided a seasonal weather outlook, indicating that temperatures are expected to be warmer than normal, with the possibility of rainfall during June and July. The presentation highlighted the importance of proactive planning and coordinated efforts to mitigate the impact of potential weather-related disasters.
