The blood spilled at Ingquza Hill on 6 June 1960 was not shed in vain. It was a courageous stand for justice, dignity, and the right of people to have their voices heard.
This annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the heroes of Pondoland who rose against oppression and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the struggle for freedom and human rights.
Speaking at the event, Acting Premier Mlungisi Mvoko, emphasized that the commemoration is not only about remembering those who lost their lives, but also about building a society rooted in the values they fought for, ensuring that their story and legacy are never forgotten.
As part of the celebrations, netball and soccer teams that participated in sporting activities promoting culture, heritage, and social cohesion were honoured with kits, trophies, medals, and soccer balls in recognition of their participation and achievements.
